Prompt Writing 101: Get Better Answers From AI

The quality of an AI answer depends heavily on the question you ask. A little structure goes a long way.

Start with a clear goal

Say exactly what you want: a summary, a comparison, a list of ideas or a step-by-step plan. Vague requests produce vague results.

Add context and audience

Mention who the answer is for and what they already know. Explaining a topic to a beginner is very different from explaining it to an engineer.

Specify the format

Ask for a table, five bullet points or a 200-word paragraph. Formatting instructions save you editing time.

Iterate

Treat the first answer as a draft. Ask the assistant to shorten it, change the tone or add examples until it fits your need.
